We are delighted to announce that Camarade, the powerful new novel by acclaimed Cork poet and author Theo Dorgan, has been nominated for the 2026 Dublin Literary Award – the world’s most valuable annual prize for a single work of fiction, worth €100,000.
Published in 2025 by Mercier Press, Ireland’s oldest independent publisher, Camarade is one of only five titles by Irish authors to make the 2026 longlist of 69 nominated novels selected by libraries in 36 countries. The nomination recognises Dorgan’s extraordinary achievement in crafting a deeply moving and politically resonant work that explores friendship, betrayal, and the lingering echoes of revolutionary idealism across decades and continents.
Theo Dorgan, one of Ireland’s most distinguished literary voices and a former Director of Poetry Ireland, has long been celebrated for his poetry, essays, and translations. With Camarade he delivers his most ambitious prose work to date – a novel that confirms his stature not only as a poet but as a major novelist of international standing.
