Graphic novels are no longer outsiders in the prize-winners category, and School Library Journal has published a great article detailing the graphic novels that have just won major children’s literary prizes.
For example, Jerry Craft’s New Kid became the first graphic novel to win the Newbery Medal and it also won the Coretta Scott King Author Award.
And from our clients,
Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me by Mariko Tamaki and illustrated by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell (First Second), was named a Printz Honor book.
Stargazing by Jen Wang won the Asian/Pacific American Award for Children’s Literature,
and Hey, Kiddo by Jarrett J. Krosoczka (Scholastic Graphix) won the Odyssey Award for best audiobook.
Congratulations to the authors and publishers of all these wonderful books!
