The Lora Fountain Literary Agency is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our long-time client and friend, Aline Kominsky-Crumb (1948-2022), who died yesterday at her home in the south of France after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband Robert Crumb, her brother Alex Goldsmith, her daughter Sophie, her son-in-law Simon, and her grandchildren Eli, Roxanne, and Joseph.

Since 1971, Aline Kominsky-Crumb has been a pioneering figure in comics, known for her confessional storytelling and expressionist-influenced drawing style. She was an early contributor to the all-female anthology WIMMIN’S COMICS in 1971, co-founded the TWISTED SISTERS comic book series in 1976, and in the 1990s was editor of the influential alternative comics anthology Weirdo. Her work has been published in Artforum, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and many other magazines, and has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries.

DRAWN TOGETHER, a collaboration with her husband Robert, was published in 2012 in the US by Norton and in the UK by Knockabout and released the same year as PARLE-MOI D’AMOUR, by Denoël Graphic. A compilation of her solo stories and illustrations, LOVE THAT BUNCH, was released in English by Drawn & Quarterly in 2018. The Spanish edition, QUERIDO CALLO, will be released in February 2023 by Reservoir Books and l’Association has just acquired the French rights.

Elle a été l’une des premières à contribuer à l’anthologie exclusivement féminine WIMMIN’S COMICS en 1971, a cofondé la série de bandes dessinées TWISTED SISTERS en 1976 et, dans les années 1990, a été rédactrice en chef de l’influente anthologie de bandes dessinées alternatives Weirdo. Son travail a été publié dans Artforum, le New York Times, le New Yorker et de nombreux autres magazines, et a été exposé dans de nombreux musées. DRAWN TOGETHER, une collaboration avec son mari Robert, a été publié en 2012 aux États-Unis par Norton et au Royaume-Uni par Knockabout et est sorti la même année sous le titre PARLE-MOI D’AMOUR chez Denoël Graphic. Une compilation de ses histoires solo, LOVE THAT BUNCH, est sortie en anglais chez Drawn & Quarterly en 2018. L’édition espagnole, QUERIDO CALLO, sortira au mois de février 2023 chez Reservoir Books et l’Association vient d’en acquérir les droits français.
