Congratulations to two of our clients’ titles : THE WHITE GIRL (UQP) and THE YIELD (Penguin Books Australia) are both shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award, the Australian equivalent to the Booker prize.
The judges noted that the books nominated this year deal with topics of racial and cultural dispossession and “demonstrate powerfully how past trauma continues to inform the present.”
Tony Birch’s THE WHITE GIRL follows one grandmother’s struggle when the Australian government tries to take her granddaughter away because she is aboriginal.
THE YIELD by Tara June Winch tells the story of a young woman who returns to her homeland to attend her grandfather’s funeral, confront the racism that she escaped, and reclaim the story of her ancestry. French Rights have been sold to Gaia Editions.
